How to install network driver under Windows 98? | |||

Solution:
Before you install the network driver, you must have both Driver_bank and Windows 98 CD-ROM discs in hand. Since Windows 98 can not detect on-board network controllers correctly, you must remove the "unknown PCI Ethernet Controller" in "System Properties" first then do the following steps to install the proper driver.
1. Double click on "My Computer\Control Panel\Network" icon.
2. Select "Add..." button in "Configuration"
3. Select "Adapter" and press "Add..." to add specific network adapter.
4. "Select Network Adapters" window will show on screen, press "Have Disk..."
button to install network driver from CD-ROM.
5. Type in the correct driver directory into "Install From Disk" window. If you
don't know the correct path, you can click on "Browse..." button to find the
driver. In this case, the path is "MIC3000\82559". After entering correct path,
press "OK" to start driver installation.
6. A supported adapter list is available in "Models" window, select "Intel(R)
PRO/100+ Server Adapter" and press "OK".
7. Windows 98 will install the driver automatically. In this stage, you may ned
to insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM disc according to the instructions shown on
screen.
8 Whenever you finish the installation, please follow the instruction to
restart your computer and Windows 98 will detectthe network interface by
itself. You may be askd to exchange the CD-ROM and enter the path of driver
several times, please follow the instructions to change CD-ROM. After that,
Windows 98 will restart computer to active network controllers.
