How to test Remote Boot for Advantech Novell OA Server? | |||

Solution:
The simpliest way to test Remote Boot is to use the old (Novell IPX Remote Boot
ROM) not RPL Boot ROM. Because you don't have to install the RPL server. You
can use Advantech OA server to remote boot your PC. SVEC.ROM is Novell IPX
Remote Boot ROM from SVEC.
How to make the Remote Boot Image file?
Prepare all the boot files, include COMMAND.COM, AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, LSL,
NLM ...
Use DOSGEN utility upload the boot files into a remote boot image file.
The Novell Remote Boot Image file should be in server's SYS:LOGIN directory.
File name NET$DOS.SYS, File type should be read only, share.
For Advantech Novell OA Server, the following is the Boot Image File
Configuration:
IRQ 5
IO Address 320
Using Multiple Remote Boot Image Files
If you want more than one Remote Boot Image Files onf the Novell Server, you
must do the following:
1. Upload multiple remote boot image files for each station into SYS:LOGIN.
Upload a separate remote boot image file for each workstation. Name the image
files for each user (FRED.SYS for user FRED, JANE.SYS for user JANE, etc.).
2. In the LOGIN directory, create a BOOTCONF.SYS file, which is a DOS text file
that identifies the following for each station's network board:
IPX external network number
Node number
Remote boot image filename (FRED.SYS, JANE.SYS, etc.)
How to get the IPX external network number?
A: User USERLIST /A Command
BOOTCONF.SYS Example:
0x5555,C06C733507=ncsa.sys
0x5555,C06C690813=ncsa.sys
0x5555,C06C733744=ncsa.sys
Please use the utility software or change the jumper to setup the above
requirement.
The following is the procedure to change your Boot ROM.
1. To show the Boot ROM start address
>CBROM 45BV201.BIN /D
2. To load the SVEC Boot ROM.
>CBROM 45BV201.BIN /other 1C00:0 SVEC.ROM
3. Write into BIOS
>AWDFLASH 45BV201.BIN
(P.S. SVEC Boot ROM is not a freeware, customer must buy from SVEC)
