How to use DATAGUARD external CD-ROM device with PPC123/153 to install Windows NT? | |||

Solution:
To use the external CD-ROM device to Install Windows NT, please check the
following procedures.
1. BIOS ( INTEGRATED PHERIPHERALS)
Please set the following values up.
Onboard Parallel Port: 378
Onboard Parallel Port IRQ: 7
Parallel Port Mode: EPP
EPP Mode Select: EPP 1.7
2. Format H.D.D.
3. Boot system from H.D.D.
4. External CD-ROM device
a. Install the CD-ROM DOS driver.
b. Modify the autoexec.bat and config.sys ( Because the external CD-ROM
device vendor doesn write the installation batch file very user friendly.)
Autoexec.bat
Add the line " C:\mscdex /d: CD-ROM number ( for example,
mscd001) /e " to the file.
Config.sys
Add the line " Device=C:\Commuter\Patapicd.sys /d: CD-ROM number
( for example, mscd001) " to the file.
5. Type command " Winnt /b " in the I386 directory under CD-ROM prompt
to install Windows NT.
6. After setting up Windows NT, please install the external CD-ROM
driver for NT.
Windows NT CD-ROM driver installation
Use the selection path:
Control Panel->SCSI Adapter->Drivers
Click on Add, put shipping disk in drive A:, then click on Have
Disk and OK, click on the driver for NT. After installation, you will be
asked to reboot, then shut down the
system, new drive icon will show up after booting.
