How to update the PCMCIA driver under Windows 95? | |||
---|---|---|---|
Solution:
1. IRQ resources
The PPC-120/140/150 comes with powerful devices to meet customer demand.
Otherwise, based on limitation of IBM PC hardware architecture, the IRQ
resources are lacking for all peripheral devices built in PPC-120/140/150. User
need to disable some devices never used and releases IRQ resources for the
others you want to use. The following table lists the relationship between IRQs
and peripheral devices.
Hardware interrupt Assignment for PPC-120/140/150
IRQ Device Remark
IRQ 0 Timer
IRQ 1 Keyboard
IRQ 2 Interrupt from 8259 #2
IRQ 3 COM 2
IRQ 4 COM 1
IRQ 5 COM 4
IRQ 6 Floppy Disk Controller
IRQ 7 Parallel Port: LPT 1
IRQ 8 COMS Real Time Clock
IRQ 9 ESS 1869 Audio Controller
IRQ 10 COM 3
IRQ 11 RTL 8139 Network Controller
IRQ 12 PS/2 mouse
IRQ 13 Math. Coprocessor
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Controller
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Controller
? PCMCIA (TI 1250) Controller Hardware shares IRQ.
? IrDA IRQ 3, 4, 5, 10
? USB
By above table, we know two IRQs must be reserved for PCMCIA slots when you
want to use them. The following paragraph will help you how to update the
PCMCIA driver for Windows 95.
2. Update Driver
PPC-120/140 built in a TI1250 CardBus PCMCIA controller. It is too new to
support by Windows 95(Windows NT 4.0 supports it). So, user need to update the
driver to let Windows 95 recognizes it. In following example installation
procedure, the PS/2 mouse and COM3 are disabled and release two IRQs for PCMCIA
slots. Please refer to your application to disable what devices.
1. Disable PS/2 mouse and COM3 in BIOS setup menu. When restart PPC-120/140,
the BIOS reports IRQ10 and IRQ12 have been assigned to PCAMCIA slots.
2. Under Windows 95, copy CBSS.VxD (Socket Service) and PCCARD.VxD (Card
Service) to Windows/ System folder.
3. Copy PCMCIA.INF to Windows/ Inf folder.
4. Go to Control Panel and double click on system icon.
5. In Device manager, remove two ? Cardbus bridge?items under "Oth
