Solution:
We get this report from our branches and confirm this issue happens with SiS
5571 chipset only. Otherwise, the SIS 5582 has same core architecture with SIS
5571. After Checking with SiS and we get a bug-fix driver from SiS. Following
is the detail procedures to install the driver if your hard drive does not have
any partition on it. User can get the driver (571W98.EXE) from SiS web site
(www.sis.com.tw) or here.
(A)With DOS 6.22 bootable disk:
1.Boot up with DOS bootable disk, execute FDISK to assign the primary
partition.
2.Reboot and format hard drive by FORMAT command with "/S" argument.
3.Install DOS 6.22 (3 diskettes) on your hard drive. (option)
4.Copy and execute SiS IDE driver (571W98.EXE) to extract 4 files to root
directory of your hard drive.
5.Execute SIS98.EXE and it will create SIS98 directory with modifing
AUTOEXEC.BAT.
6.Make sure that both SISFIX.EXE and SISIDEFX.VXD exist in the SIS98 directory
after step 5. "C:\SIS98\SISFIX.EXE" must be includede within AUTOEXEC.BAT.
7.Insert Windows 98 installation disk and following the prompt to finish the
installation.
8.Remove the line "C:\SIS98\SISFIX.EXE" in the AUTOEXEC.BAT after installing
Win98 successfully.
(B)With Windows 98 installation disk ONLY:
1.Boot up with Windows 98 installation disk and follow the prompts to configure
your hard drive. After rebooting. Windows 98 will format the hard drive
automatically.
2.System will prompt you with a message as "Press Enter to continue setup the
Win98 or Escape to exit" if format is finished, please press "Escape" to exit
and system will reboot again.
3.Press "F5" to prompt "A" drive while "Starting Windows 98" is shown on
screen, copy the COMMAND.COM from Windows 98 installation disk to root
directory of hard drive.
4.Follow step 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 in section (A) to finish the installation
