Why User's DIO card will function during system bootup? | |||
---|---|---|---|
Solution:
After I check with BIOS engineer, the fact is the PCA-6153 used UM8669 chipset,
and its Super I/O will occupy the BIOS system I/O address 108h and 109h for
extra software configuration programming. And the BIOS will do the
initialization during system bootup to these address (according to CMOS BIOS
setup settings). Unfortunately, this operation will affect the customer DIO
card to function during system bootup. Due to this DIO card is using the same
I/O address as Super I/O functions which are basic function to a system
(unremovable), so it is recommended that customer should avoid to use 000h-1FFh
system I/O address range. It is free to use add-on card on the range of
200h-3FFh.
The PCA-6157 haas no this problem since it is using SMC FDC37C665GT chipset for
Super I/O function, its I/O addresses are directly mapping to individual
SuperI/O function. And the software configuration program for its software is
done by these address. This chipset design structure is different to
UM8669/UM8663 chipset.
Normally, a PC will use system I/O address (without special mention in
000h-1FFh) to embed different chipset supply from IC supplier. And an I/O
add-on card manufacturer will try to use 200h-3FFh for his product. This will
prevent potiential I/O conflict for constructing a system. However, there are
some add-on card suppliers are trying to use system I/O address for their
product. To this kind of condition, It is recommended that you can select the
product which has an ability to adjust its I/O address or IRQ, or DMA to
prevent this I/O confliction.
Summary, it is unable to provide any BIOS modification due to the chipset used
on PCA-6153 will ocupy the I/O address the same as user add-on DIO card. As you
can see this is a restricted limitation for UMC chipset on Super I/O function.
Please consider to use different CPU card with SMC chipset or change another
DIO card to solve your system confliction.
