How can we enable Intel 8255x or 82562 LAN driver under Linux system?
Solution:
Please enable the 8255x LAN driver manually if you're facing the following cases: 1. Linux kernel 2.2.14~2.2.16 cannot detect the 82559 LAN chip automatically. 2. System cannot detect the 82562 LAN adapter built-in in Intel 815E chipset. In fact, you can use the e100 driver because it is compatible. The only way for enabling all the LAN ports in your system is to force your 8255x LAN adapter(s) enabled manually. Following is the brief description about the procedure. If your kernel has no e100 driver attached, please refer to the attached file to install the driver first. Please notice that "e100-1.3.14.tgz" file is DOS format. You can copy it into floppy disk under DOS format, then move it into your system under ext2 file system. If your system already has e100 driver, please refer to the attached file to enable LAN adapter(s). P.S. Please read the e100.txt carefully, because Intel has described that their 8255x driver only support kernel 2.2.x. It is recommended to use the latest kernel version for using 8255x LAN chips at all.
