AutoTAp Software error
Solution:
Category: AutoTap Model numbers Tech note applies to: Autotap Brief Description: Error C:\\Windows\system32\oleaut32.dll could not be opened Software Install Issue with Windows 7 or Vista Solution/Troubleshooting: If customer receives this error: "The file 'C:\Windows\system32\oleaut32.dll' could not be opened. Please check that your disk is not full and that you have access to the destination directory" This is the solution: This is a case of insufficient privileges, even though trying to install it as an Administrator. Details follow. When first trying to install, I got the error message that 'C:\Windows\system32\oleaut32.dll' could not be opened. To correct it, I went to the indicated .dll file in the ...\system32 folder and found the Owner to be wrong. It was listed as TrustedInstaller and should have been Administrator. I changed it in Properties/Security/Advanced under the Owner tab. Then I had to step out of the Properties window, and then re-enter it and go to Security and Edit to tick the "Modify" box for Administrator. I also had to do this to the same file in the ...\sysWOW64 folder. (Most of the files that gave the error are duplicated there.) After doing this and attempting to install 3.1 again, I got the same error referencing a different .dll file. I repeated the sequence above with it, and so on. This went on for about 10-12 files. A couple had the .tlb extension. Once I got the Owner changed, and the Permissions set to Modify, it installed flawlessly. If you get the following Autotap : error 8-01-8012 line 0 Solution/Troubleshooting: Check the device manager for any virtual com ports that might be loaded the customer had 2 RIM virtual ports from his blackberry. Once we disabled those the customer could open the software.
