Configuring Ethernet Serial Server as Client | |||
---|---|---|---|
Solution:
Wants to set an Ethernet to serial converter to act as a client.
I want an Ethernet to serial converter that works both ways.
I want to control an Ethernet device from a serial device.
Trying to set up serial to Ethernet where their device acts as a server and our device acts as a client.
Questions to ask and explanation on how it works.
What is the IP address of your Ethernet device and what port number does it listen on?
In order to use a serial to Ethernet converter in the way you are describing, our device would act as a client, and your device would have to act as a server. So your device would have to be listening in on a particular port number on the network.
You then set our device as a client and put the IP address of your device in the Remote IP field of our settings and set the port number to what ever port your Ethernet device is listening to. (Our default is port 4000, you would change this to reflect the port your Ethernet device wants)
If you are unsure of the port number, you will have to contact the manufacture of your Ethernet device and ask if it can act as a server and what port number does it listen on. Not all Ethernet devices have this capability.
