Solution:

Connect the MES1A or MES1B to the serial port of a computer, make sure the MES1X is powered off. Open up Hyperterminal. Set baud rate to 9600 8 none 1, no flow control. It does not matter what the baud rate was set to on the MES1X previously. Connect to the device with Hyperteminal. As soon as you power up the MES1X device hold down the "x" key on the key board until configuration information appears. As soon as you see the config information hit enter to get into the setttings of the MES1X and you can see the IP address there and change any settings you want.
