How does the Fault Relay work on the ESW500 Series Switch?
Solution:
Note: When configuring the switch and relay settings it is recommended to use Internet Explorer. The Fault Relay is normally open unless one of the events triggers the relay. Power is not applied to both the DC and AC input. If one of the port status events were met “Warning When Link Up or Warning When Link Down” If you only have a DC input (most common) and you do not want the relay to trigger when the switch is powered on, it would be recommended to jumper the DC input to the AC input (Don’t leave the AC input floating). Otherwise once the unit is booted up you can go into the Relay Warning page and click clear once to reset the relay and the power wont trigger the relay again unless the switch is power cycled and then it would be required to click clear again. If the switch loses power all together the relay goes back to the default of open. Warning Type “Warning When Link Down” (most common) will only trigger the relay if the switch has established a link on that particular port and then the link is lost. If the switch was booted up and there was nothing connected to one of the ports with warning type “Warning When Link Down” it will not trigger the relay until a link has been established and then the link goes down. Warning Type “Warning When Link Up” will only trigger if a link is established on that specific port while the switch is already up and running. If the switch is powered on when a connection is already made to a port that is using this warning type it will not trigger the relay. Note: To open the relay after it has been triggered, it would be required to go into the switch and hit clear once.
